What is Nona’s Way?
Nona’s Way began as a 780-kilometer Camino de Santiago awareness walk with my dog, Nona, to honor first responders carrying invisible wounds and remember those we have lost.
Today, Nona’s Way continues through stories, resources, community, and projects like Nona’s Watch that invite honest conversations about resilience, recovery, rest, companionship, and the many paths to healing.
The Camino ended. Nona’s Way has not.
What is Nona's Watch
Nona’s Watch is a Nona’s Way project created to offer first responders a quiet weekend of rest, nature, and reconnection.
For the inaugural Nona’s Watch getaway, Tall Pine Grove and Mozark Fishscapes are gifting one selected first responder a two-night stay in the Ozark Mountains and a guided fly-fishing experience.
Nona’s Watch is one way the message of Nona’s Way continues after the Camino.
Can I nominate a first responder for Nona’s Watch?
Yes. Eligible nominees are active-duty or retired first responders who could benefit from rest, quiet, time in nature, and a chance to step away for a weekend.
This may include law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, dispatchers, corrections officers, and others who have served in first responder roles.
What is included in a Nona’s Watch getaway?
The selected recipient will receive a two-night stay at Tall Pine Grove near Harrison, Arkansas, and a full-day guided fly-fishing experience with Mozark Fishscapes.
The recipient may bring one spouse, partner, friend, or guest.
Travel to Harrison, Arkansas, meals, fishing license, and guide gratuity are not included. Dates are subject to lodging and guide availability.
How will funds be used?
Contributions help support Nona’s Way projects, including future Nona’s Watch getaways, book and resource development, storytelling, outreach, and efforts that encourage first responder mental health, healing, and recovery.
Nona’s Way is not currently a nonprofit organization, and contributions are not tax-deductible.
Is my contribution tax-deductible?
Not at this time. Nona’s Way is a project of Legalize the Divine LLC, not a nonprofit. We commit to transparency in how funds are used.
How does the children’s book connect to Nona’s Way?
The children’s book is the first expression of the larger Nona’s Way mission. It introduces Nona, the Camino journey, and the idea that healing, hope, and connection often begin one step, or one paw, at a time.
Does Nona's Way have social media accounts?
Yes. We post regular updates with photos and videos on Instagram and on our Nona’s Way Facebook page. You may also sign up for Nona’s News to get updates.
Is Nona’s Way: The Search for the Perfect Stick based on a true story?
Yes. The book is inspired by Nona’s real 780-kilometer Camino de Santiago journey across northern Spain with K.L. Sadler in the spring of 2026.
Are free resources available?
Free downloadable resources are being created for Nona’s News subscribers, including a Junior Pilgrim Certificate, coloring pages, discussion questions, and classroom-friendly activities. Check it out.
Can teachers and librarians use the free resources?
Yes. Teachers, librarians, homeschool families, and book clubs are welcome to print and copy the free downloadable resources for classroom and educational use.
Who is the book for?
The book is written as a children’s picture book, but it is also for families, teachers, librarians, homeschool groups, book clubs, dog lovers, pilgrims, and anyone who understands that the best journeys are the ones we share.
Is Nona’s Way a nonprofit?
No. Nona’s Way is not currently a nonprofit organization or 501(c)(3).
